Shockwave therapy is a treatmnt we offer here at tfd therapy within our soft tissue treatments. It is an effective and non-invasive treatment for injured soft tissues when an injury in this area reaches a chronic non-healing state.
Shockwave treatment works by sending an acoustic wave, which carries high energy, to painful spots and tissues with sub-acute, sub-chronic and chronic conditions. The energy from these waves promotes regeneration and reparative processes of the bones, tendons and other soft tissues. It is often found to be very successful in treating otherwise very stubborn and painful injuries that can be difficult to treat. The main benefits of shockwave therapy are that it provides fast pain relief, restores mobility and helps to speed up the body’s own healing process.
Treatment using shockwave is highly recommended by healthcare professionals and is growing in popularity following more and more studies being carried out to support this form of treatment, often being a safe alternatie to some surgeries.
Injuries that can benefit from shockwave include but is not limited to:
- Planta fasciitis
- Patella tendinopathy
- Tennis & golfers elbow
- Shoulder pain
- Heel spur
- Shin splints
- Hip pain
- Calcifications
- Hamstring tendinopathy
A contact gel will be applied to the area of pain and the shockwave treatment device is applied to the affected area. The shockwaves are transmitted through the skin into the injured tissue. The shock provokes the body to respond to this controlled trauma by increasing blood circulation in the injured site as well as the surrounding soft tissues, triggering stem cell activation and enzyme production in the injured tissue which promotes and accelerates healing while reducing pain felt by the nerve fibers.
