What does Sports Massage do?

Sports Massage is generally aimed at treating areas that commonly need attention within the gym and sporting environment. A massage therapist is trained to be able to identify tight areas in the body and locate trigger point areas, also known as knots. Using compression through a variety of techniques they will then work on these areas to release the tension.

What is a Maintenance Sports Massage?

A maintenance sports massage is a regular massage between workouts or training sessions that aims to loosen off muscles that have become tight and shortened during exercise or training sessions.

Why have a Maintenance Sports Massage?

Worked muscles that become shortened or tight can become painful after training and are more likely to cause an injury. Having a sports massage between sessions will aid muscle recovery to return them to their normal state. This will mean your muscles are fully recovered ready to be worked again and will improve performance as well as reducing the risk of injury.

How often should I have a Maintenance Sports Massage?

A maintenance sports massage can be anywhere from once a week to every two to three months. This will largely depend on how much training the individual is doing as well as the type of training and the intensity of it. Cost is also a factor as well as personal preference! Speak to your therapist to discuss the most beneficial option to suit you and your training plan.
