Anyone fancy a nice day out by the river for a bit of fun we said?  18 people, mostly strangers to each other, added their names to the poster on the noticeboard and off we went to the Thames at Abingdon on Sunday morning.  With the sun shining, our horns polished and team t-shirts on, we were called to our ‘training row’ to get some expert advice about how to paddle together in a narrow boat to avoid tipping over.  Without a care in the world we boarded out dragon boat with Claire S at the helm grasping hold of the drum so tight we were off.  Soon realising the training row was key to our success we needed to actually listen to Claire and get a rhythm going.  Our first race was good, second race was even better as we didn’t realise we’d got ourselves into the finals!   Having not taken it very seriously to this point, we started getting very competitive and wanted to walk away with the trophy.  So, we recalculated our weight distribution and adjusted the pairings in the boat.  Everyone pulled out all the stops, Claire ditched the drum and was shouting instructions at this point and we did it… we won! What a fantastic day with another group of amazing individuals and their family & friends who cheered us on from the banks of the river
