Time management is something that most people want to improve on, especially at work. With frequent distractions and trying to juggle a million and one things, being successful at time management is progressively harder to achieve. There are however things you can set up to make your life easier…

1. Set reminders for tasks

The key to time management success is to know your deadlines and set reminders to keep you on track. Try setting a reminder 15 minutes before a meeting or event so you can prepare and gather your things and thoughts. You can do this by adding to your email calendar or setting alerts on your phone. Do the same for the end of the day so you can leave on time and get to the gym for your class or workout!

2. Create a daily to-do list

Make a list of the tasks that you need to complete each day and make a note of upcoming meetings or deadlines as you become aware of them, so you have time to prep. As you complete each task your list, make sure to tick off the tasks you have completed. You’ll feel a sense of achievement when you see it all completed!

3. Give each task a time limit

On your to-do list, allocate how much time you think and hope each task will take you. If you don’t finish on time, stop at the allocated time, and come back to it later on. Sometimes moving on to a different task and then coming back to it gives your mind a rest, fresh start, and a different perspective.

4. Block out distractions

Most importantly turn off your email notifications! Set aside some chunks of time to check your emails every few hours instead of checking it constantly. Make sure you minimise distractions such as your phone, social media, or your sociable colleagues. You could even unsubscribe to emails that take up your attention such as online shopping and leisure topics.

5. Establish routine

While at work, create a routine that makes the most sense for you and your job. This is important because if a chaotic day comes along, you can still work through busyness while sticking to your structure and methodically keeping to your routine. You’ll feel more in control which will help with stress levels and productivity.
