There are strong links between the brain and the gut. Keeping both healthy will improve our wellbeing. The brain has a direct effect on the stomach and intestines, that feeling in your stomach before you’ve even tasted something nice or a nauseous feeling before you try something you don’t like.

The connection works both ways, the gastrointestinal tract is sensitive to emotions – anxiety, happiness and sadness. So when we feel stressed or nervous this can upset the stomach.

So, with that said, we need to keep both brain and gut healthy. The brain is healthiest when we make time to reduce stress, connect with others, take care of our physical health and get good sleep.

The guts health can be improved by having a diet containing prebiotic foods such as whole grains, bananas, green vegetables, onions and garlic. Probiotics can be helpful too.
